The 5th "Small Pig" Academic Forum and South China Large Animal Model Academic Seminar were held at Wuyi University. More than 160 experts and scholars engaged in large animal related research, including Yin Yulong, an academician of the CAE Member, a researcher of the Institute of Subtropical Agroecology of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, and Jin Nanheng, an academician of the Korean Academy of Hanlin and a professor of Wuyi University, attended the meeting.
The 5th "Small Pig" Academic Forum and South China Large Animal Model Academic Seminar are hosted by Wuyi University and co organized by the Small Pig Professional Committee of the Chinese Society for Experimental Animals. The aim is to further promote the construction of the Guangdong Medical Large Animal Model Key Laboratory, promote academic exchanges in experimental animals in the Guangdong Hong Kong Macao Greater Bay Area, and strengthen cooperation and sharing of large animal experimental platforms.
At the seminar, Yin Yulong pointed out that experimental large animals are an important strategic resource for medical life science research and an important supporting condition for basic research and application development of biomedicine. Gene edited large animal models can provide raw materials for regenerative medicine biomaterials, cell therapy, etc. Especially humanized large animal models can provide excellent models in cancer tumors, humanized antibody vaccines, and complex disease models, providing more scientific and reasonable tools for preclinical research. Multiple regions across the country are exploring the establishment of large animal model research. Wuyi University was one of the earliest institutions in the country to establish a large animal standard research institution - the South China Biomedical Large Animal Model Research Institute, hoping to establish it as a benchmark for large animal model research in the country. Through this forum exchange and discussion, we aim to break through academic bottlenecks and promote basic research and technological innovation in the field of biomedicine.
