Capital of Overseas Chinese，full of charm

Jiangmen is regarded as the capital of overseas Chinese. Nearly 4 million Chinese living overseas in 107 countries and regions -as well as Hong Kong, Macao, and Taiwan- have their roots in Jiangmen. Overseas Chinese have strong feelings of attachment and sentiment for their mother country and hometowns. They have made dedicated efforts to help their hometowns through donations to public causes and investment in commerce and industries. As of the end of 2020, Jiangmen had received 47,261 times of donation from overseas Chinese for charity and public welfare, equivalent to 7.97 billion Hong Kong dollars. There are more than 3,800 foreign enterprises in Jiangmen City with a registered capital of US$23.459 billion, among which, there are 2522 key overseas Chinese enterprises.In recognition of the outstanding contributions

made by overseas Chinese, foreigners, and Chinese nationals in promoting social civilization; the development of philanthropy; friendly exchanges with foreign countries; and economic, scientific, and technological development,Jiangmen has introduced the "honorary citizens" system. Since 1993, 9 batches totaling 727 personages from home and abroad have been granted honorary citizenship.

The unique history of Jiangmen results in a brilliant culture featuring many

overseas elements. Traces of foreign influence can be found everywhere, from

architecture to food, clothing, customs, and manners. Jiangmen has established Friendship City relationship with the American cities of Riverside, Mesa,Millbrae and Auckland, as well as the Australian city of Ararat, and has developed friendly exchanges with a dozen other cities.

Specialty events in Jiangmen include the National Capital of Overseas Chinese (Jiangmen) Overseas Chinese Carnival, The World Youth Conference in Jiangmen, Forum of Youth of China, etc. The Overseas Chinese Carnival started in 2004, and so far, 7 sessions have been held. The festival is a showcase for displaying the new achievements and development in Jiangmen, as well as its charms and splendors through a series of economic, trade, cultural, and tourism activities. It provides a platform for Chinese around the world to connect with each other.The World Youth Conference in Jiangmenis a forum featuring elite youth of Jiangmen origin as the main body, with the goal of uniting overseas Chinese youth around the world, promoting mutual communication and beneficial cooperation. Hosted by Jiangmen associations from all over the world and the World Youth Association Liaison Branch in turn, it is held every two years and 6 sessions were held from 2008 to 2018. During the COVID-19 in 2020, our city innovatively held a cloud world youth congress with "all miles of brothers and sisters meeting on networks" as the theme, which attracted the attention and participation of 75 countries and the people in Wuyi area.
