Overseas Chinese  always loved hometowns, cherished their hometowns and enthusiastically contributed generously to various public welfare undertakings in their hometown.Before the founding of new China, overseas Chinese attached great importance to education, and it became common to raise funds to run schools in their hometown. At its peak, there were hundreds of schools funded by overseas Chinese in Wuyi area.

After the founding of new China, overseas Chinese and ethnic Chinese continued to carry forward the glorious tradition of patriotism, love of hometown and enthusiasm for education.From the founding of new China to the end of 1958, 23 overseas Chinese middle schools were set up in Taishan County alone at that time.

Liu Jin, President and professor of Guangdong Institute of overseas Chinese culture of Wuyi University, said that since the reform and opening up, with the increasingly close contacts and exchanges between overseas Chinese and China, they pay more attention to the construction and development of their hometown, and their donation enthusiasm continues to rise."One of the important aspects is the donation to education," he said.

The reporter learned from the Municipal Museum that according to the statistics of relevant departments, from 1978 to 2000, overseas Chinese and compatriots in Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan donated a total of HK $4.477 billion and donated 2370 schools (including Jiangmen and other domestic cities).At that time, most towns and villages in our city had overseas Chinese donation schools, and ganbian overseas Chinese middle school in Shuibu Town, Taishan City was one of them.

Liu Jin said that since the reform and opening up, in addition to vigorously setting up educational undertakings and improving the quality of the people, overseas Chinese and ethnic Chinese have set up charitable and public welfare undertakings in their motherland and hometown in all aspects: donating medical and health undertakings, saving the dead and healing the wounded, and improving the health level of the whole people;Organize cultural and sports undertakings and activate the cultural life of the masses;Building bridges and roads, improving transportation, building hydropower projects and improving people lives have contributed to the social and economic development of his hometown and China.
