Resources and Climate

Jiangmen is located in a subtropical zone with mild climate and abundant rainfall. Its average annual temperature ranges between 22.2 and 22.9 Celsius degree, and its annual rainfall averages 2055 mm. It has about 1700 hours of sunshine annually, and its frost-free period lasts more than 360 days.

Its geography includes 26 rivers with drainage areas over 100 km2, among which the Xijiang River (West River) and the Tanjiang River rank in the forefront of the province in terms of runoff. It ranks second among all the prefecture-level municipalities in Guangdong in terms coastline length (420km) and ranks second in the number of sea islands (561). Its total timber reserves stand at 22,300,000 cubic meters, its forest coverage rate at 46.29%, and its per capita green area at 17.82 square meters.

Jiangmen is a model city of national environmental protection, and its environmental quality has been steadily improved in general. The water quality of the main rivers in the city is generally good. The proportion of the water quality of the surface water provincial assessment section and the rate of meeting the water quality standards of urban drinking water sources are 100%. The atmospheric environmental quality has been continuously improved, and the comprehensive air quality pollution index in urban areas has dropped by 9.3% over the same period of last year, ranking second in the province. And its urban sewage treatment rate is 95%. Jiangmen's rate of harmless treatment of urban living garbage has reached 100%.
